Just waiting in the Zurich airport for my flight, which looks to be online.  Hanging out with my friend Robert from  Vilnius Lithuania.  I cant believe I am leaving already, the trip has surpassed all my expectations.

Eliminated

Sep 19, 2010

Well, I was able to win my 3rd game but lost my 4th.  I was 1 car away from winning multiple times, but had both largest army and longest road stolen from me and finished with 8.

We had a medieval feast in the evening with costumes and engeainment.  Food was sjperb, costumes with provided and some were thrown togethrr wkt components, and some were more elborate.  I am tpuring Schloss Sigmaringen today.

Two down, two to go

Sep 18, 2010

Well I am winless after two games.com which means I have to wn 4 games straight to be world champion.

Played my first game vs. Finland, Italy, and Lithuania. I was very close to winning bfore I lost my longest road amd came last. Italy won.

For my 2nd game, it was against Hungary, australia, and uk. Hungary wa very lucky in drawig 4 victory points to win.

In general the competition is very evenly matched. Currently a girl from Norway has two wins. I expect most semifinalists are going to need 2 wins to continue. Historically females have a good record in the preliminary rounds.

My third game is starting now.

Missed the train

Sep 17, 2010

So after succesfully making evety train/bus/boat/etc so (17 at my last count).  I missed my first one.  Of course this was because the streetcar I was taking was late, and I missed the previous streetcar (which was on time) because the bus was late.  I failed to catch the earlier bus because I was standing on the stop for the wrong direction.  And i would have taken an earlier, much simpler route but I was having lunch in a pitch black restaurant in Zurich.

Blinde Kuh was the first fully blind restaurant in the world.  After my change of plans yesterday, I was able to get in to today.  It is currently the most expensive meal yet, but such an interesting experience.  The food actually takes better when your brain isn’t thinking about what it is seeing.

Photos on a train

Sep 16, 2010

I have updated the gallery.  Most of the photos are raw.  I will discard the garbage shots when I have bigger display.  Taking photos on a train is hit or miss, taking photos in a cable car is better, but still has reflection issues.

Fondue

Sep 16, 2010

Well, am loving this swiss food.Had so e schnizel last nignt a d eas going for fondue tonignt.  Apparantly fleischfondue or meat fondue does not have any cheese in it is raw meat that you boil in water with sauces.  I really hope i didn’t give myself food poising. I double cooked each piece, but there was juice on my plate that I think got on the other food.  they serve french fries as a standard side, witnout even asking.

The dorm is much more packed tonight, was a large group of climbers.  There is a girl staying as well.  She took the corner bunk, as has no problem changing witn guys in the room.  I guess that isn’t s big deal in europe.

Sleeping in today was nice, getting up tomorrow won’t be.

Change of plans

Sep 16, 2010

this was made Thursday after noon:

Well, I decided to use the power of the swisspass and and change my plans.

There is really too much to do here in Zermatt, and it is one of the 2 highlights of my trip. I unfortunately will get charged for my stay in Basel, but it is worth it. I’m really not in a train taking mood today. Tomorrow I will likely take a trip through Zurich, but I do still have time to hit Basel and Freiburg if I leave early. The Freiburg route has me taking an ICE bullet train, which I was looking forward to, and couldn’t today. Zurich will let me have lunch at Blinde Kuh restaurant.

So with my prolonged stay, I am going to Rothorn. To get there I have to take a weird slanted underground train. I think its a funicular. After that another cable car, followed by a Gondola lift.

The trip to Klein Matterhorn I took this morn was 1 cable car and 1 gondola. They originally had it in 1 cable cars and 2 gondola, or 3 cable cars and 1 gondola via Schwarzee paradise, however they simplified it, and sped it up considerable.

The tip of the matterhorn is still cloud covered, but everywhere else in the valley is visible.
